This is the story of the bee, one of the most wonderful creatures in the insect world.

The story starts when the queen lays her eggs—perhaps 2000 of them in one day—carefully waited upon by her attendants. Soon, as the eggs hatch, the hive is teeming with life and the nurse bees are feeding and caring for thousands of grubs and larvae. Other workers are out collecting pollen and nectar; the first ones to return to the hive will tell their sisters where the best supply is to be found.
The bees may have to seek a new home; often they have to fight to drive away a strange swarm which has come to raid the hive and steal the honey.
All these activities, and the various stages of a bee’s life, are shown in the pictures, which are as easy to understand as they are lovely to look at.
