Nature-based Beekeeping - Guidelines for Authors
Articles are welcome on beekeeping that avoids stressing the bees/maximising honey production. Equal preference is given to articles on non A. mellifera beekeeping, i.e. beekeeping with stingless bees, Asian Apis species or other non-Apis bees (e.g. Bombus or Osmia) and pollinators. Articles on A. mellifera are welcome in particular if they are covering African subspecies, or if they cover ‘bee friendly’ methods (organic, top bar, treatment free, feral. (intriguing aspects about their biology or innovative projects).
For NBBK the usual size limit is 1,000 -1500 words for articles and reviews, and a maximum of 500 words for Comments and Letters. Exceptions are possible if the content justifies the extra space. News items can be much shorter. The decision of the editor(s) is final.
Authors should submit
1) A text file (e.g. Microsoft Word) — PDF files are not accepted.
2) Images and figures, which must be sent separately. Pictures must be full printable size. If too big to send by email, send via www.wetransfer.com
3) A list of images and figures, providing the file number of the image in question, and captions (if any). This list can be integrated/added to the text file (1).
Formatting and style request
Latin names always in Italics, first name capitalised, e.g. honey bee Apis mellifera. The words ‘honey bee’ and ‘bumble bee’ should always be written in two words and small letters. Try to avoid repetitions and inconsistencies.
Photographs and Figures
We encourage the use of full colour figures and photographs to accompany the text. We expect a full length article to be accompanied by 3 to 6 images (from which we select), ideally with one ‘stand out’ image to be considered for the first page. Illustration files should be the original size of the image taken and not reduced in size or heavily cropped.
When submitting articles and photographs for inclusion in Nature Based Beekeeping (NBBK), please state who has the copyright, and whether they have been sent simultaneously to any other magazine or journal.
Submissions should be made to contact@naturebasedbeekeeping,org, and are reviewed by the joint editors.
A separate cover email or letter must be sent to support your submission and stating why your work is novel and appropriate for Nature-based Beekeeping.
